Sept. 27, 2009--AFFIRMATION MINUS CONFORMATION EQUALS TRANSFORMATION

Today's reading from Acts 17:16-34 presents an excellent example of how to communicate the gospel to those who do not have any kind of Judaeo-Christian background, as we take a close look at Paul's address in Athens.
The process by which Paul does it begins with AFFIRMATION (common ground), but he then quickly moves on to show how his beliefs do not CONFORM to theirs and then waits for the Holy Spirit to bring about TRANSFORMATION.

We park at Acts 16 one more week, as we re-visit verses 16-26, focusing on Paul and Silas' stay in prison, where they sing praises to God and there is an earthquake, followed by open doors and breaking of everyone's chains.
This message looks at several passages in Scripture (mostly from Psalms) which help us discover THE POWER OF PRAISE.
