Oct. 25, 2009--CHURCH WORK vs THE WORK OF THE CHURCH

In the reading from Acts 18:1-23, we discover once again that the first and foremost thing the apostle Paul does when he gets to a new place is to Lengthen the Reach of the gospel by usually going to the synagogue and convincing the Jews that Jesus is the promised Messiah. His second emphasis (as revealed by his 18 month stay in Corinth and his decision to go back and visit the churches in Galatia and Phrygia) is to Strengthen the Reached.

This message stresses the fact that this is really THE WORK OF THE CHURCH and encourages today's churches not to simply settle for doing CHURCH WORK.

In Acts 3:1-10, when Peter and John meet the lame man at the Temple Gate, he expects them to give him alms, but Peter says to him: "Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give to you. In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, get up and walk." This verse forms the basis of today's message: WHAT DO WE HAVE TO GIVE.
